A big Thank you

A BIG thank you to all members of the Spartan Cross Country team who competed yesterday at the season kick off at TCS and represented PHHS well. A special mention to Sydney Watson and Nathan Wood who competed in their first race at the high school level. You all conquered the dreaded Mount Trinity! Way to go Spartans!! A big thank you to everyone who helped make our 4^th annual Spartan Race a huge success. Thank you to all staff who manned an obstacle, who ran the race, who looked after the music table outside and the cheering inside. Thank you those of you who worked our sound systems. Thank you to student government for setting up the obstacles. Thank you to the students who manned the food table and to the Port Hope Police Department for the 300 Mr. Freezies. Thanks to all the custodians for cleaning up after we were done. Thank you to our Principal and Vice Principals for allowing the day to happen. Check out the Snapd event page for some of the pictures taken and soon to be on Chex TV. It was tremendous to see all the energy and enthusiasm all afternoon. Well done everyone.

Congratulations to All Spartan Cross Country Runners

Congrats to all runners who competed last week at COSSA, and thank you for a fabulous season. Season four was the most entertaining so far! Special mentions go out to Nathaniel Cardinal who ran his fastest 5 km of the season. An incredible pace of 4:53 per km. Both senior boys, Spencer Watson and Alex Larsen had strong finishes in a very fast 6km race. Alec finished 29^th out of 66 runners and Spencer Watson placed 11^th, having steadily moved up the standings over the course of the season.   Sydney Watson improved immensely over the season finishing an amazing 7 minutes faster at COSSA than her first meet in September. Finally, Emily Spencer saw her training over the season pay off as she moved past a 4 year St Mary’s rival to finish ahead of her at the last 2 meets.

Well done to all runners and congratulations on a fabulous season!!

Fast for Funds

Fast for Funds is this Friday from 1 – 10 p.m. Cost is $20. Please bring a water bottle with you. There will be rice/protein snack at 5 pm and light sandwich buffet at 9:15. In the main gym there will be movies, board games/card games, crafts or you can work out in the cage. In the north gym there will be a different sport each hour (basketball, volleyball, floor hockey etc) Bring your money and permission forms to the main foyer at lunch to register beginning on Tuesday. Need a permission form pick one up at lunch in the main foyer as well. Come out and support the WE Club and Journey of Hope Trip to Tanzania Africa.

Remembrance Day – next Monday

It marks the 75^th year of the ending of the 2^nd world war. As Canadians we are grateful for the liberties and freedom that we having in a democratic society.

Any student who wishes to walk to the cenotaph downtown to honour our veterans and those who are presently serving….you must obtain a form from the office, have it signed and returned before Friday! Let’s do this PHHS!

Congratulations on collecting 1239 lbs of food donations in homerooms and community collections last week!! In addition to this outstanding donation of food, the WE club has 2 more festive fundraiser planned this Friday’s Fast for Funds.

Next Saturday November 16 desserts and crafts will be sold to help reach the Christmas cash donation of $500 to help feed our neighbours in collaboration with Northumberland Fair Share Port Hope.

University of Waterloo Math Contest

Any student interested in writing a University of Waterloo Math Contest in February should see Ms Wallace in room 202 to sign up.

Jr Girls Volleyball

Yesterday the Jr Girls volleyball team had a great day on the court. The girls played very well in all matches. They split with Campbellford in the first match losing 21-25, then winning 26-24 & in the final match beating Campbellford 25-10. These Spartan ladies also split with St Mary’s winning the first game 25-22, losing the second 25-17. Both games against CCI were close but the girls just couldn’t pull it off losing the match 26-24 & 25-18. An excellent tournament all round. Practice Friday morning 7 am to prepare for the tournament at Brock HS on Thursday.

Sr Girls Volleyball

The Sr Girls Volleyball team also had a great day. Close game against Campbellford narrowing losing 25-23 both games. The Lady Spartans lost to CCI and St Mary’s before ending the day with a strong win against Campbellford 25-13. Practice Friday morning 7 am to prepare for the tournament in Campbellford on Wednesday.

Invitational Swim meet

PHHS hosted its Annual Invitational Swim meet yesterday. Congratulations to Michelle Cowan for her improvement throughout the meet. Congrats to students getting personal bests including Emily Spencer in 50 freestyle and 50 butterfly and Darlene Nassak in 50 breast stroke. Congratulations to Abby Teno for beating her sister’s school record in the 50 butterfly. Congrats to Curtis Stender setting new school records in breast stroke and back stroke. Finally congratulations to Jameson Mcbride for breaking 8 year old school records in all 3 of his events, 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 100 IM.

Thank you very much to Mrs Watson and all of the students to helped timing throughout the meet. Spartans you made us all very proud!!

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Yesterday the Jr & Sr Girls Volleyball team travelled to Norwood for Kawartha qualifiers. The Girls were on their game.

Jr. Girls lost to Campbellford in 3, but beat Kenner and Norwood 2 straight. Making us #2. Outstanding players with excellent serving was Avery Drummond, Julia Temelovski, Sydney Watson and Sarah Clark. Rylee Smith had an outstanding number of hard hits scoring us many points. Kate Mulder showed excellent leadership by always calling the ball and ensuring her teammates knew what they had to do to win the point. Huge skill improvement was made by Kayla Doherty and Ava Munro.

Sr. Girls also lost to Campbellford in 3 and beat Kenner and Norwood 2 straight. This made our Sr. Girls #1. Outstanding overhand serving by Emily Spencer serving 12 points against Norwood. Steller hitting and blocking by Abby Teno against Campbellford. Amazing digging by Taryn Madill against Kenner, she was a digging machine. The outstanding cheering award goes to our exchange student Venla Liane, even one of the referees commented on her cheering.

Both teams, whether on the court or on the bench played well together. They were supportive of each other, they encouraged each other and cooperated like a team should whether they were a starter or not. No practice tonight after school.

A reminder of the staff student volleyball game on Thursday where Staff will certainly take you to be slaughtered. Please remember to bring your volleyball uniform and equipment and prepare to be creamated!! GAME ON & BALL UP!

Congratulations to the Swim team

Congrats to the swim team who completed in Belleville yesterday.

Spencer Watson got a 3^rd in 100 metre backstroke, Jameson McBride was 1^st in 50 metre butterfly, Darlene Nassak was 1^st in freestyle and 2^nd in backstroke while Michelle Cowan was 1^st in backstroke and 2^nd in freestyle, beating her previous time in the 100 metre freestyle by 26 seconds! Curtis Stender got first in all 3 events with new school records and took off almost 8 seconds in the 50 metre freestyle. All 5 swimmers compete at COSSA next week. Way to go Spartans!!
